What started as a lighthearted cosy read had me bawling my eyes out by the end. It's a slow story and once I understood the idea (the travelling cat and whatnot), I was afraid it would get a bit boring or repetitive, and the chapters are quite long as well. But as soon as Satoru's situation became clear, it gave the story more depth. This fictional road trip through Japan was full of poetry and discoveries!
I LOVED the story from the cat's POV, much more than when it was an impersonal narrator. The one issue I had was about Satoru being this perfect, selfless, understanding human being, even as a child. I always prefer when characters are flawed, much more realistic imo.
Also, I listened to the audiobook and George Blagden did a phenomenal job! So much so that I immediately knew which character was speaking!
Overall, a great book for cat lovers and people who need a cosy read with emotional twists!
