The Companion by Jo Crow

4.0

I'm sure I've seen other books by this author that I turned down, but I won't anymore!

Crow writes an atmospheric novel about a woman named Anna, who has a big chance for a role as a voice actor. She's messed up big time previously, but it's a secret that we have to wait to find out. So when she's offered a job as a companion to an unresponsive former actress that includes access to a recording studio she's thinking it's a great trade-off. After all, how hard can it be? Besides, her employer, Colin, is gorgeous. But then she meets Kara, who eerily stares through her. And Nurse Ratchet (well, that's not her name, but you know what I mean!)

Although Colin swears he's 100% dedicated to his wife, with full confidence in her recovery and return to acting greatness, Anna isn't so sure. Kara seems to be deteriorating. And then Anna discovers the tapes. Who do they incriminate and why? You might guess part of the outcome, because Crow strategically left you clues, but you won't guess the ending!

Thanks to Booksirens for introducing me to this new-to-me author through an advance reader's copy.
