Doll Bones by Holly Black
4.0

Zach, Poppy, and Alice have been playing together for years, spinning out elaborate stories with their action figures and dolls. When Zach's dad throws away his toys and Zach quits the game abruptly rather than tell his friends, Poppy and Alice take a valuable doll from Poppy's mom's collection to lure him back. But once The Queen is in Poppy's possession, Poppy starts seeing the ghost: Eleanor, who is somehow trapped in the doll and needs their help to be freed. The trio sets off on an impromptu midnight road trip across state lines to give the doll a proper burial, and to cross the chasm between childhood and the teen years.

More of a family/friendship/relationship story than a ghost story, which was a little disappointing (I wanted creepier), but it was a really great look at the changing friendships and relationships among middle-schoolers.

Nick Podehl narrates. <3
