Headshot
by Rita Bullwinkel
Headshot has an interesting premise. Young women boxers dish it out in the ring, each with their history, insecurities, demons, weaknesses, and strengths, all of which make them the fighters they are. I thought it was fine.
The composition of this text is fascinating. It is almost completely plotless, without dialogue, and repetitive both structurally and syntactically. I sympathise with reviewers who said they couldn't stand how repetitive it got, but it didn't bother me too much. Some of the girls blended together because they were not distinct enough from the other fighters, specifically considering they all had similar wants and fears despite having different backgrounds.
It is an interesting character study but is not particularly entertaining or memorable.
