The Sittaford Mystery by Agatha Christie
4.0

All the atmosphere I want from a Christie mystery, but this one's a bit chaotic. It has lots of different investigators (the police, a newspaper reporter, and the fiancée of the primary suspect) working from different angles and sharing clues. And Christie deliberately and obviously holds back crucial information from the reader.

Her holding back details isn't a big problem for me because when I read a whodunnit, I'm not usually trying to solve the crime ahead of the detective. I'm just along for the ride. But it doesn't seem like Christie is totally playing fair in this one.

And then there's the bigger problem of a red herring or two that just get dropped with no explanation.

I enjoyed the mystery and the characters, but it's not a book I'd recommend.
