A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin

description

This was expression while reading this book. It was painful, and I honestly thought of leaving it. The only reason I stayed with it (and keep going with the series) is for the three or four characters I enjoy. I thought the first one was slow and grating but oh how naive I was...

So what was the problem? It was slow with very little happening, or on the off chance a plot-moving event occurred it was rushed with only one person's POV. Overall, Martin is mediocre writer and I'm constantly wondering if this is supposed to be realistic medieval history or fantasy since he seems to vary between them. Many problems I had with the first are present in this book as well. Most of the characters are not particularly likeable, Jon Snow Catelyn so their sections are unbearable to plow through. Also tons of rape in this one, like it felt as if rape was mentioned in every single chapter. And it's never really pointing out that rape is terrible and shouldn't be done, no instead George R.R. Martin acts likes it's totally normal and okay. Before anyone tries to tell me that's what happened back then and it was accepted you can fuck off because this is a universe where dragons and three-eyed crows exist, rape didn't have to be there.

I do love Sansa, Tyrion, and DAENERYS; these characters are the reason I keep going and I honestly enjoyed their parts. Overall, the series are okay and I can see why the show would be better popular.
