I loved and hated this book. I loved the highs that Alec could take Laura to and the fact that he was respectful about her being the one to decide his role in Jack's life. I hate his mother for hiding this from him and his dad for agreeing to keep the secret. I understand their reasoning but that reasoning led to trauma on either side of the aisle so it does not excuse their actions. I also hated the coach and was glad he got what was coming to him in the end. I should have known how much this book would emotionally wreck me considering the playlist at the start had Alessia Cara and Rosie Darling on it. Those are the sad girl tunes. Jack was truly a joy and the childhood innocence he was allowed to keep the entire book was incredible to read about. The author making a point about childhood friendships and the societal pressure put on them unnecessarily at times was great. I did think it was a bit much considering he was 5 to be discussing it in the way she did but I understood the point and agree with her arguments. Alec was an incredible lover and took his time to get to know Laura again instead of assuming he still knew everything about her but still remembered her old habits and preferences. Overall, a fantastic book and I was grateful to see the representation of platonically raising a child with your best friends instead of a romantic partner. This book made me laugh, cry and scream.
