Since meeting Hugh in SCOUNDREL OF MY HEART, book one in the series, I have been excited to see what kind of woman would have him falling in love. It was hilarious that he would fall for someone, who’s been such a huge part of his day-to-day life, that he’s known for roughly 8 years but just now started to really see.

After an embarrassing last season, when the woman he courted married another, Hugh is determined that this year he’ll find his future duchess. Leaving nothing to chance he gives the job, of finding a suitable wife, to his extremely hardworking secretary Penelope.

For 8 years Penelope has been the best secretary anyone could ask for. Determined to always prove how competent she is she works tirelessly to ensure the Duke’s day-to-day life runs smoothly. Though she’s been in love with him for years she takes her job very seriously and is determined to find the perfect future duchess no matter what it takes.

This was such a fun read, I always adore it when one character out of nowhere sees the other as if it’s the very first time. So focused on work and ensuring financial success Hugh never truly noticed how much Penelope does for him. He also never truly noticed just how perfect she is…until now. When someone mention’s that she may leave her position when a duchess is found he’s shocked to imagine how dreary it would be without seeing her daily. He struggles to understand why another woman would be intimidated by the close working relationship Hugh and Penelope have.

Later this month they’ll be releasing another book, though this was originally a duology, which I’m excited about. The third book will focus on the fallen [almost] Duke Stanwick, whose brother falls in love in book one. I’m hoping we get more about the Chessman as well as seeing a long-awaited return to good fortune for Stanwick as he finds his own love story unfold.
