What happens in Ancient Greece doesn’t always stay in Ancient Greece.
Character Impressions:
Halcyon
I was not expecting this dark-haired muscular warrior to be the omega in the relationship but I welcome it all the same.
One of the things I love about Lexa Luthor’s books is that she always has underlying reasons as to why her characters are hesitant to be together. If it’s not an external force keeping them apart, it’s an internal dilemma. Here, it’s because of the society Halcyon was raised in and how she grew up with the notion that dying in battle is the greatest glory for a warrior like her.So when she gets pregnant with Thora’s child, part of her doesn’t want motherhood to come between what she’s prepared her entire life for. It becomes the wedge between her and Thora’s relationship.
To see her work through her previous ideology to determine what and who she really wants was profound to read.
Thora
Thora is the perfect swoon worthy counterpart to Halcyon.
She doesn’t just have a strong personality but a strong presence that affects everyone she interacts with. She’s protective over Glauce, intimidating to Euclid, and a friend to Cesare. Seeing how other characters grow or change because of her shows how much of an influence she is. It’s no wonder why Halcyon was drawn to her. The moment Halcyon goes into heat, Thora is there to take care of her not just physically, but emotionally as well.

Minor Characters:
Cesare: Halcyon’s oldest and most trusted slave who's more of a friend than anything else. I love his friendship with both women.
Glauce: One of Halcyon’s slaves. I liked that she and Thora developed a sisterly relationship. It was nice to see her grow more confident as the story went on due to Thora’s influence.
Vitus: The tutor teaching Thora how to speak Greek. I enjoyed the friendship he developed with Thora.
Euclid: Halcyon’s husband (for the moment). He’s not an evil guy but I hated every mention of him.

Story Impressions:
The language barrier between Halcyon and Thora is such a unique way to get the two women to communicate. I adore how even though Thora is the one learning to speak Halcyon’s language, Halcyon goes out of her way to learn a few words in Thora’s language as well.
The relationship between Halcyon and Thora was a pleasure to see unravel. The moment they meet, there’s chemistry and Halcyon’s curiosity for who Thora is and where she’s from grows more intimate as time passes.
