“My happiness is not the means to an end.it is the end. It is it’s own goal. It is it’s own purpose.”
Themes: individualism and collectivism
I was recommended this book by a teacher. I liked the writing style, and how it tends to talk about collectivist ideas and methodologies in retrospect to individualist ones. It tends to show how collectivism tends to weaken willpower while, individualism gives independence and strength. In a society, where seeking knowledge or doing things by oneself are considered “curses” and everyone has to use the word “we” to refer to themselves, the protagonist finds himself breaking these laws to which he finds happiness even when he realizes the consequences.
I really liked it, I think it really touched on a lot of individualist methods but I would recommend if you’re looking for a political read.
