It wasn’t a fast paced read but I felt like it really made me think. People, particularly self centered people, who can’t process and cope with personal trauma justify an evil act without thinking of the consequences. How does that then affect everyone, even themselves? It really dove into just how traumatic something can be to one person but how that then spiderwebs into affecting many others. One of my favorite parts of reading is getting to experienced something you never have, even painful things, and the author did a great job of putting me into the shoes of several different people who lost a child. I feel as though I’m coming away from reading this with a different perspective on that pain than I had before I read it. Sometimes I see people asking for books like The Thorn Birds and I can see how this had a little bit of that same family dynamic if you take out the priest part. It’s been years since I’ve read The Deep End of the Ocean but this makes me want to give it another read.
