I loved everything about this book. The worldbuilding is expertly done in a way that allows the reader to empathize with the bewildering experience of the main character thrust into a culture she doesn't understand, while still being legible to us as an alternative history of our world. The characters are lovable and complex, their interactions exploring the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, class, neurodiversity, and living under colonialism. Even minor characters have depth and complexity in their brief appearances.
The plot is engaging and well-paced, and the suspense and humor are perfectly balanced. Can't wait to read the next one!
