I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I had a hard time deciding what to rate this one. It is a short read (292 pages on my kindle) and was entertaining and enjoyable, however, there were important parts that felt rushed. I enjoyed the world-building and the concept of different magical lands separated by portals was interesting to me. Kasia is a badass and understandable, she has major trust issues. I generally liked her character, but at times I thought she was being outright unreasonable. Xerxes, our MMC, is an absolute gem. His patience and loyalty are admirable. Orion, his best friend, really stole the show in this book. His character brings some much needed light-hearted banter to the story. I really enjoyed the plot twists and surprise alliance toward the end of the book and I look forward to the next installment in this series.
