The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

3.0

If you adored this book, I see you and your opinion IS SO VALID.
If you hate this book, I see you and your opinion is EQAUALLY AS VALID, because this book put me on a roller coaster called "is this book a 5 star or a 1 star, I can't fucking work it out"

Picture this:

MC 1 = Percy, Apple of my eye, cutiest poatootie that ever patootied, has secret problems he’s kept from his friends, has a difficult life but it’s made better because his best friend was there, who he may or may not have been secretly inlove with since forever.

MC 2 = Monty, the main MC, A SPOILT, SELFISH, SELF ABSORBED FLAPDOODLE WHO WAS A LEGITIMATE PIECE OF SHIT THE WHOLE BOOK? He only cared about himself and how he felt or how something would effect him. And it was a reoccurring point in the book so you'd think there would be great opportunities to turn that around. And everytime you’re like “omg this is the moment he turns it around and becomes a better person…”

REDEMPTION ARC you may say or think????? He SURELY must beg and grovel and to get to their 'well-deserved' HEA right???????

Well…. There is a HEA, but definitely no redemption here, and saying 'well-deserved' would be s stretch as Monty is still a cunt. so don’t hold your breath if you read this and await a personality transplant that means Monty becomes a good buy, because there fucking isn’t one. What a flop ending/apology at the end.

I loved the initial pining, the pre/post kiss thoughts of Monty in the beginning.

And I love a little “woe is me, father says I’m useless I’m so shit” but like… grow out of it by like 50%/change for the better or I’m exhausted, and Monty never grows out of it. He’s a twat until the end.

The sister plotline felt unresolved? The relationship was developing but kinda just went no where in the end? Would have been nice for them to admit that they liked eachother??

This was a roller coaster read, I actually still enjoyed this enough but I think I was also gaslit into that opinion by the narrator because he was fucking nailing the accent from that time period
