The Passion by Jeanette Winterson

Did not finish book. Stopped at 40%.
DNFd at about 50%. This was an interesting premise ruined by nothing happening and horrible purple prose. Very much a copy-cat of Saramago's "Memorial do Convento" (written five years before), including all the things I disliked about that one.

Even the third-person narration is the same, with very little dialogue but a lot of navel-gazing. I didnt enjoy the imagery it evoked, much like Saramago this one seemed to enjoy revelling in how filthy peasants were back in the day, describing sex scenes and acts with uncomfortable detail, etc.

And its boring.
