The Gone-Away World
by Nick Harkaway
I think I genuinely wanted to like The Gone-Away World. It had checked all the boxes. Mysterious introduction. Excellent characterizations. Amazing slow burn potential.
But it is marred by constant flights of fancy, descriptions that require considerable investments of attention that result in little to no payoff, and a seemingly disappointing plot that takes waaay to long to get to.
It originally felt like an epic when I started. Then it became an unnecessarily winded tale that was just a bit lukewarm.
