Five stars for the story and characters. Minus three for the needless (almost insulting) repetition and overdone metaphoric imagery. For example, we must hear several times that a certain character has red hair and a triangle-shaped face. Wow, that's clever. And we got it the first time... This is just one of many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many examples. (See what I did there? That's what it's like to read this.) But the mystery element is good, and the creep factor grabs you. Overall, this book could be great were it 250 pages shorter.
