This story broke me in the best way; it was emotional, raw, and full of quiet love.
Connor… What a character! Vulnerable at the start, but with the help of those around him, he stepped up when it mattered most. His growth, emotionally and in independence, was beautiful to read. Both he and Bernie had slipped through the cracks, and this story really shows how broken the system can be. Although, it also shows what compassion and community can do.
Jean’s kindness, Connor’s hidden stash of birthday & Christmas presents for Bernie, the Ann Summers moment, this book had everything! The romance subplot didn’t really do anything for me, but it didn’t take away from the heart of the story.
Also, I’m obsessed with the cover!
