I didn't read this as a kid, so none of the nostalgia was there, but I still found it enchanting. I have seen the movie, though, and totally would have thought Winnie was older than 9 years old... I feel like it would have been a little better if she were. The story is still full of wonder, and I did fall for Winnie and the Tucks. I can see how this became a middle-grade classic; the writing would have sucked me in as a young reader. It did a pretty good job of that now. I'm not sure I love the ending, but I appreciate this for its take on love, loneliness, and living fully with the time you have.
