The Lost Family: How DNA Testing Is Upending Who We Are by Libby Copeland

4.0

As an at-home DNA test skeptic, I was excited for this to confirm my biases (i.e. ancestral country of origin does not equal personality, etc.). While that was a small part of it, there was a lot to unpack here about what family means or does not, and how many people have taken these tests to learn their parents are not actually their parents (rare, but way more than expected!). A few chapters are slogs of genetic science, but this is ultimately a pretty fascinating look at how genealogy has evolved and how DNA testing can upend families, even for those members who never took a test.
