The Co-op
by Tarah DeWitt
This one just left a lot to be desired for me. The banter was good, Deacon was a solid main man, LaRynn was headstrong and interesting, and the idea as a whole seemed good on paper...but it just fell pretty flat. It also didn't help that the audiobook narrator for Deacon did an absolutely terrible Boston accent. It sounded like he was trying to do a mix of Christopher Walken and Mark Wahlberg, and it did not work.
Even though there were plenty of great moments throughout the book, I just found myself wanting a lot more. The steam was nice, the former lovers turned enemies element fueled the story, and the set up of redoing the old home made for an interesting setting with tons of tension. But the romance just seemed a little too farfetched/unbelievable at times.
If you're looking for a fairly quick read with some good music recommendations and banter thrown in, this would be a good choice! The writing was solid and I think there was great potential if a few things had been added to really push it over the top.
Read if you like: marriage of convenience, fake dating/fake relationship, enemies to lovers, second chance romance, fixer upper vibes, and slow burn/tension.
