Everything in this book was so contrived, from the “love triangle,” to the “secret identity,” to the main character’s “motives” as murder suspect. Didn’t realize until almost the end that this was actually a Columbo-style murder, in that there is really only one viable suspect and the entire (unnecessarily complicated) book is just an attempt to unravel his means, motive, and opportunity. Add in enough minutiae about bats to make my eyes glaze over, and there’s no way I’m picking up another book in this series.
