Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata

4.0

All of these stories were the alien-looking-in-on-human-life stories to varying degrees, which is what I love most about Sayaka's stories, from the mundanity of Convenience Store Woman to the outrageous over-the-top Earthlings, and now Life Ceremony, which is a collection of everything in between those two extremes grounded in social commentary.

Favorites out of this one would have to be A Magnificent Spread, Eating the City, and Hatchling. That's not to say any were terrible. I liked all of them even if most of my time spent with this book I wanted to hurl, apparently, I'm a sucker for punishment.

If you're reading this review before you read this collection of short stories, word of advice: Do not read these while snacking or before dinner because you're sure to lose your appetite. You're welcome! Thank me later.
