Nanny for the Neighbors
by Lily Gold
I don’t think I could ever say enough about this book.
Found family
So, so much representation
-> lgbtq
-> infertility
-> foster/adoption
-> different kinds of family
-> substance use
With spice just built in to the story so well that is not the main focus.
These men loved Beth so much and it was a relief she loved them too. The dynamic is interesting because they’re not all technically in a relationship together but each man is in one with her and they just so happen to have sex together because it’s what they enjoy. They double and triple dare with her. Everything they do is for her. The way the end came together was *chefs kiss* - I actually cried a little.
She confronts with her birth mother and grandmother was great. I loved this because in the end she still got to know her siblings who are the product of IVF, something Beth can’t do because her birth mother hid a genetic issue from her instead of helping her by finding a way to tell her because she never cared about her. The grief from Beth about it was palpable & as someone experiencing secondary infertility was something I could understand and it really hit home. This is the first book to include it in a way that wasn’t glossed over and allowed for the depth of it to be felt properly. It’s despairing and you can see that in Beth. It’s not an afterthought.
They literally built their own family over the course of this book. Again, I cannot say enough. They helped each other heal and grow. Just beautifully written.
