Original Rating: 3 Stars

This is the first re-read of Throne of Glass. When I started I was surprised to see that my last rating was 3 stars but by the end of the book I can see why, despite giving it a 3.75 star rating this time.

On this read I bumped up the star rating because I could see the world building that Sarah J. Maas slowly put in that doesn't feel like much until you read the later books and know the world better. In saying that I also know the rest of the series means I had to be careful how I rated to make sure I wasn't pulling reasons from later in the series.
I don't think I could give this book anything higher than the 3 star area as this book really just feels basic. I believe this is why the original rating was 3 stars. The story is enjoyable and something that I will continue with and did when I first read it, but it feels like a basic book 1 in YA fantasy. Whilst there is nothing from with the concept, I would say it is not one that I have really seen again, but the story beats and pacing really made it feel like I have seen this recently despite being over a few years since I originally read it.

Being a very mid book 1 I can see why it can be a miss with a few people and one of those series that annoyingly gets "It gets better after book 2 or 3 or 4" which in the world is reading is a lot of dedication for a series. If you find that you enjoyed this but it wasn't overly ground breaking then continue the series you will most likely enjoy it.
