I respect the writing of this book but it is almost aggressively bleak. I also think the abuse is so over the top as to be concerning because someone in a similar relationship might think, “at least I don’t have it that bad.” I like how she shows the ramifications of abuse on everyone in a family but I didn’t find this enjoyable.
