The Good Soldier: A Tale of Passion
by Ford Madox Ford
I'd just finished Sons and Lovers before picking up the Good Soldier, and could not stop thinking about the can't look away, holy-terror love-hate hurricane that would have been an affair between S&L's Miriam Leavers and Edward Ashburnham of the Good Soldier. Someone with sufficient literary chops: please make my fantasy a reality.
As it stands, The Good Soldier was a quick, fascinating novel, and I related so much with some of the main characters (or rather, their circumstances) that certain passages were physically nauseating (if you've ever been cheated on, this is the emotional equivalent of a Saw movie). I'm now on the hunt to find a copy of Parade's End to call my very own.
