challenging emotional reflective sad medium-paced

Didn't think I would enjoy it but I really liked it.
It has really complex characters and explores topics like racism, poverty, identity and different family dynamics. Although I didn't like the protagonist and didn't much care for him, I got attached to all the other characters and was rooting for them. Also, loved the setting in the backyard of the house.
