Illuminae

I definitely enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Loved the unique story-telling method, loved the character dynamics. However, I found myself losing steam in the final third of the book. I just felt like I had been reading the book for so long. And maybe that's because I don't often read 600 page sci-fi novels but still. It was just a little too much "oh weird AI oh god more death oh goodness must hack something!" and I was getting bored. Also reading AIDAN's sections was for some reason so annoying after a while? I never knew reading centered text for more than a couple of pages would annoy me so much, but it did.
The ending really brought it up to 4 stars for me. It hit all the emotional upticks, and ended with just enough mystery and intrigue to lead into another installment. It really was a well-done book.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and am interested to continue in the series, especially if I can find the sequel for a discounted price.
REREAD in 2025. Bumping up from a 4 to a 4.5!
