Read this if you read Every Summer After and loved it. It was sadder than the other book but the resolution for Charlie is sensible. If you were a shy kid or a photographer, definitely helps to relate. Escape to the lake and then find that it has traveled with you. Is a part of you. It’s all that it comes to mean when you vacation but maybe then feel more at home there than where you supposedly reside.
I only had one major qualm: the convenience of Alice running into a side character near the end after a tough time, a little too coincidental.
Minor qualm: not the best handling of the spice. I get why given the issues involved, but I thought maybe the repeated teases and closed door intervals between descriptive instances would lead to a more impactful intimate experience- Read it for the love, quirk your lips up at the occasional spice. I think it’s worth the ride.
