The Bone Shard Daughter by Andrea Stewart

“When a shark offers up a pearl, be wary of its teeth. My father liked to tell me that when we were sailing, though I found this lesson most often applied on land.”

Rating: 5/5 ★★★★★

Underrated.

Seriously though, this book is hella underrated. The plot, the magic system, the characters are literally so good, I was shocked to find hardly anyone had read this.

The Bone Shard Daughter is a high fantasy novel set in an Asian inspired world.

The book starts off with Lin, the Emperor's daughter is told that she's broken and is unfit to be the heir to his kingdom. Then the page turns to Jovis, a smuggler of witstone who's searching for his lost wife since years.

There's Phalue, the daughter of the governor of Nephilanu Island who's in a relationship with Ranami who's one of the rebels, The Shardless Few, who plan to overthrow the Empire. Lastly, there's Sand, who falls of a mango tree and realises she's been living a lie all this time. And the way every charactesr's story seems to add up in the end is awesome.

These are admittedly a lot of characters to keep up with a but trust me when I say this novel is SO worth it. The plot and characters are in pieces when you begin, but the pace picks up soon with the plot!

And the plot is seriously so well-paced and the twists and turns only added up. Though the end wasn't much if a cliffhanger, I really wanna pick up the sequel as there's many unanswered questions.

I was, honestly, very sceptical while starting this book as there haven't been many people discussing this book, but it exceeded my expectations and got me turning pages in minutes.

I recommend this to everyone who's a fan of epic fantasy. Now, stop wasting your time and go read this masterpiece, what are you waiting for?
