Mrs de Winter by Susan Hill

This was one of the most disappointing books I’ve ever read. I don’t doubt that Susan Hill is talented but she set herself up for failure trying to write a sequel for a novel so seminal as Rebecca. She tried too hard to show she new the details of Rebecca than actually developing a new plot, and the writing style was laborious - each sentence had so many clauses it became monotonous to read. The twists and turns eventually led to nothing of consequence, and were ultimately extremely underwhelming and anti-climatic. However, I may give Susan Hill another try in the future, as her writing may feel different when she is not trying to emulate another authors.
