Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe
by Fannie Flagg
medium-paced
This novel did not age well; though “realistic” for the setting, the lot of it was not needed to carry the story— which is said to be “light-hearted”— forward.
The story also explored the lives of multiple characters, which I found made it harder to follow & contributed to unsatisfactory character development.
I was also hoping that the novel would go more in depth on Idgie & Ruth’s relationship as the book itself markets their relationship as a focus, but the exploration of their relationship & them as individuals was also unsatisfactory.
