This book was a bit of a mess. It's not bad. In fact, at times it hit me in the feels and I found myself tearing up.
Probably because the author is making this the first of a series, she felt the need to give the backstories on the entire cast, but it didn't flow for me.
The story would had been complete if we didn't learn so much about the supporting cast. They can get future books .  Or maybe there were to many themes -- friendship, family, love -- that made it messy.

Oh, as a nitpick I hated the way the author wrote conversations. I became distracted with the phrasing .
