The Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance by David Epstein

4.0

If you like sports and science, you'll have a blast with this. Epstein spends a fair bit of time on the genetically and physically anomalous professional athletes and very specialized small populations (like Kenyan marathon runners), of course, but he also covers phenomena that the everyman can relate to, such as responsiveness to training and natural aerobic thresholds. I liked this balance of focus between crazy amazing athletes and variances observable on an average high school track team.
