This is a beautiful book. It tells the story of a young German girl during the Second World War, narrated by Death. The innocence of a child combined with the realistic remarks of Death made this book very pleasant to read.

This is not an average WWII story. It focuses on the day-to-day life of a poor German family and how Nazi propaganda was the most normal thing in the world for them, through the eyes of a child that is trying to understand the world around her.

Ultimately, this is a story about the power of words, how they can be beautiful but also dangerous. And that is as accurate as it has ever been, I think.

I am not entirely sure if I will sleep tonight, but this book has been a wonderful journey.
