The Eye of Argon
by Jim Theis
When I saw someone online call this an object lesson on how not to write, I was curious. This was published — even if just in a fanzine — so there must be something redeemable in it, even if it is unpolished, right? No, dear reader, there is nothing redeemable here, and I am saving this here mostly so I can remind myself of the name of this story in the future if and when I need this object lesson regarding how not to write. As short as this story is, I couldn't finish it, not even close. The author lost me with "her stringy orchid twines of hair swaying gracefully over the lithe opaque nose." As opposed to a transparent nose? Here's the link where I read it, for the morbidly curious.
