When I started this book, I was not aware that it is a prequel/sequel to Tommy Orange’s other novel There There. I might adjust my review after reading that one.
I really wanted to love this book more than I did. It’s so important and the writing is beautiful. I loved how each character has their own distinct voice. However, as soon as I was getting invested in one of the characters, I felt that the frequent change of perspective from one character to the next pulled me out of the story. But, as I said, maybe I would have felt differently if I had read There There and already had more insight into some of the characters that appear in this book too.
