Sated by Rebekah Weatherspoon

3.0

I enjoyed this story a lot more than the first ebook in the trilogy. Neither is long and demanding reading, but the characters in this story felt more realistic and complex than in the previous book. (I skipped book 2 for now, even though I bought a bundle with all three, because the blurb hasn't caught my fancy yet.). I appreciated the diversity demonstrated in the trilogy in general--in this story, it's truly impressive: Asian-American switch/ submissive amputee hero with a heroine who is described as African American, although not really specified, and who is also an extreme, awkward, happy extrovert. Since they're interacting with the previous books' heroes, there are also Hispanic and Asian and Indian characters. Sated is certainly a creative and unique entry into the short erotic romance story category, with edging and fisting and Families and a hero who is a switch preferring submission and some other less common (for erotic romance novels) sexual activities. With a heroine who is super fit and super "dorky" (actually geeky--she's really into a sci-fi series, for example), who can't contain her energy or her thoughts, and reminds one of an excitable puppy sometimes. With a pyrotechnics consultant Asian-American amputee hero. With main characters who are actually pretty comfortable in their own skins. It's all just new and creative, especially as a whole, and while it won't ever be my favorite story, I give it credit for being an interesting and surprisingly effective addition to the genre. I guess I'll eventually have to give Tamed a try too, and keep an eye out for whatever else Ms. Weatherspoon has to offer.
