The Dinosaur Lords by Victor Milán
2.0

This didn't work for me on many levels, unfortunately. There's something innately cool about knights on dinosaurs, and that coolness carries the book as much as it can, but almost 600 pages of nonsense can't be outweighed by mere cool. Mostly because the knights-on-dinosaurs thing isn't actually as cool in the book as it could have been. For a book with so many characters, none of them really made an impact on me. Almost 600 pages of cardboard characters sort of riding dinosaurs every now and then ... meh.

I'm overly annoyed with the book stating that this isn't Earth, not an alternate Earth, has nothing to do with Earth, and yet it's clearly Earth. I don't know what big reveal is coming in later books about the setting, and frankly, I don't really care. Other books have done the "you think this is a fantasy world, but surprise! Actually Earth!" and they've done it WAY better. It seemed like we were going to get POV from the dinosaurs themselves, which would've been creative and interesting, but we only got two tiny snippets. This book almost put me in a reading slump because I was dreading having to pick it up and keep going, so I finally rage-finished it in one long session. Thank goodness.
