Bicycling with Butterflies: My 10,201-Mile Journey Following the Monarch Migration by Sara Dykman

4.0

A lone woman. A bicycle. A trek of over 10,000 miles. Starting in Mexico. Winding through the US. Going into, out of, back into Canada. Back into and through the US by a different route. Then back to the wintering grounds of the monarch butterfly in Mexico. I loved this story.

In 2017, the author took this challenge. She did it to highlight the peril of the monarch migration, and to enlist help from every day people in making their migration and continued existence possible.

The story was one of adventure, nature, and connection, with only very few negative experiences. My heart was warmed that people were kind to her. I enjoyed her journey vicariously. I enjoyed all I learned about nature and monarchs. I was saddened and disturbed by her anger, and sometimes even rage.
