A solid rebound and a good end to the newest Thrawn trilogy. I'd honestly sat on this one waiting to read it for a while after the second book turned out to be so weird. But this book, set in the weeks prior to his appearance in Rebels, is a really solid return to Thrawn.
Thrawn has always been a bit of a Sherlock Holmes aloof sleuth or Zhuge Liang master strategist and this book is a return to that. Thrawn is asked to help out with some problems around the Death Star being built and uncovers a whole host of issues. With some solid, if predictable twists he works to defend the universe against unseen threats. For the most part you're kept on your toes, but there are some strategies that just got overused into the dirt. Oh well, you're not in it because you're a master of the marg sabl maneuver, you're reading this book for the popcorn reveal of the master strategist.
There are even some solid nods to the old version of Thrawn that got wiped away in Legends that made me pretty happy to see.
I really hope Thrawn pops up in the new Ahsoka series because I can't wait to see what he does in the new post-empire timeframe. Zhan and Filoni have really given him a lot more "good guy" flavor in this latest iteration as opposed to his slightly more ruthless version in the original heir to the empire trilogy. So it'll be interesting to see where the character goes in the future.
