After struggling with and subsequently DNFing my previous read, I decided to give this book a reread after several years (probably around the time the film came out) since it was short and hopefully would pull me out of the reading slump I was in. It definitely worked.
This book covers a lot of really difficult topics, but I think it handles them well. It truly encapsulates teen life, at least what teen life had felt like to me. Reading this now in my twenties was definitely a different experience to when I read it last as a young teen, and I noticed a lot of things I missed previously and understood it a lot better. I'm really glad I have given it a reread. I think this book is well-written and shows Charlie's growth as a person within the writing itself. Recently I've seen quite a few people talk about this book after not enjoying it, which is perfectly fine, but for me it is still a great book.
