Logan's Run by George Clayton Johnson, William F. Nolan

3.0

What a ride. Imagine the movie but with even more perilous encounters stacked in the way of Logan and Jessica as they race to escape to the fabled Sanctuary. I am glad I read it because I worship at the altar of sci-fi and like to read all the classic novels I can get my hands on, however nothing will replace the image of Michael York that is seared onto my heart. I actually preferred the film as I found the book read like a long action movie with lots and lots of set pieces.

The mythology and explanation of how society came to be this way was intriguing and I loved the first part of the book which described a youth culture indulging in pleasure and excess.

The ending made me do a big. "Come on..really?!" and annoyed me terribly, but regular readers of my review will know that, of course, I will still read the sequel.

Very glad I read it and definitely recommend you pick this up even if only to satiate your curiosity. I noted that another reviewer pointed out that if this had been released in the last twenty years and taking the huge surge of popularity of YA sci fi into consideration, it could have been a huge success. I can see that.
