I love spl so much. This series holds a special place in my heart.

A large part of my love for spl is due to my love for Gu Yun as a character. He is someone who struggles so much (through emotions, disability, illness, duty, and political machinations), yet he remains true to himself throughout.

This book was in a way a culmination of it all- a nice happy ending for Gu Yun, where he finally gets to retire and enjoy the rest of his life. Still with the pain of his past and his chronic illness, but made much more manageable with Chang Geng at his side.

SPL is one of the few danmei that takes the whole illness/disability thing seriously. It is never cured in a hand wavey way and I love that so much.

The two parts of this volume that strikes me, other than their confrontation in the war camp (rightfully emotional), were actually the extras. I enjoyed getting a look at Gu Yun’s parents so much. I enjoy the quote “No child will fear someone who loves them…”

I am SO SO SO fond of gu yun. I would read sha po lang one hundred times just to read more gu yun.
