Winging It With You
by Chip Pons
3.5 stars.
Asher is headed to attend the worldwide travel competition reality show, The Epic Trek, with his boyfriend when he’s unceremoniously dumped at the airport. He’s still got his ticket, so to console himself he’s taken a stop at the airport’s TGI Friday’s for a mimosa and mozzarella sticks. Theo is the only pilot who has never taken a vacation, and he’s been grounded for this reason. His superior has told him he must prove he can prioritize a work-life balance or say goodbye to his wings. He’s at the airport TGI Friday’s mulling over his option when he meets the handsome guy who ‘stole’ his mozzarella sticks.
WINGING IT WITH YOU is told in dual POV, Asher’s and Theo’s with an audiobook narrator for each (big win). The setting is a reality TV show worldwide competition, The Epic Trek.
I thought the premise of WINGING IT WITH YOU was really cool and unique. I really liked the varied settings as the contestants in this show travel the world and compete to win the grand prize. The scenes we see amongst the competitions are a lot of fun.
The characters are well-written with great chemistry and banter. There’s some open-door spice included as well. I love a good fake dating trope, and this was no different.
Pons touches on some difficult themes with care, adding an extra layer of emotional depth. The overall novel still carries that lighthearted rom-com vibe despite that making for a great vacation read!
