Yellowface by R.F. Kuang

dark funny tense fast-paced

Wow this book was wild. Start to finish I read this under 24 hours because I could not put it down.

There’s so many things to like about this book. It’s interesting to see the inside of publishing a book and the other side of the book community. I liked how the author did not hold back on dropping names of authors and publishing houses. I also like how she explains how the process works and all the terms that go with it. This industry is constantly evolving and this book is a great example of the pitfalls and challenges many authors still face.

Outside of the publishing, this book at a whole is horrifying to read. It’s about a woman stealing a book and a culture and attempting to make it her own. What’s crazy is just how delusional June is. Instead of feeling bad and guilty she makes herself into a victim time and time again. The way she justifies things is baffling. It’s sad that this is definitely not as fictional as it should be, but well worth the read!
