Considering the beginning, I thought I'd like this more than I did Legend & Lattes, but in the end it didn't work quite as much, while still being an enjoyable read!

I despaired a little bit at the lack of tension in the first book, and I feel like Baldree tried to add more in this one! Good! Except the result felt more... jumbled, I guess? Scattered? We didn't spend nearly enough time on each of the story threads to completely appeal to me. The rebuilding of the library was fun, sure, and yet I feel like we didn't quite see the consequences of it, the celebration, especially because they're dampened by Viv having to leave. The romance also didn't have much chemistry, even though I loved both characters! Probably, once again, because we know it's only going to be temporary. And the adventure part lacked some deeper meaning and high action scenes. So... yeah.

Still adored the characters tho! Loved seeing a younger Viv and her high spirits, as well as meeting Galina. Fern is positively DELIGHTFUL, and so was the homonculus, Satchel, who ended up being my favorite character <3

I'm going to keep reading in the series, because I enjoy what it's doing, and the fact that it isn't a favorite probably has more to do with my expectations VS the cozy genre. I really think, though, that allowing things to take a little longer and dive deeper would do wonders for these books ~

Oh, and also, amazing audio narrating from the author, just like with the first one!
