Overall I liked this book. I thought the magic system was interesting and so was the world, though at times it felt a little disorganized and just mildly confusing. I felt like there just wasn’t a good picture of some of the nuisances. 

I really like Roark and Lyra. They were interesting characters and I’m excited to see more in book 2. 

It took a while for this story to actually pick up. The first half of the book felt like more could have happened. The second half definitely picked up and I had a much better time getting through it. 

This wasn’t my favorite LJ Andrews book, but I still enjoyed it and will read on.
