It had so many romantasy things yet was refreshingly different with 1900's gangsters and magic. It starts with our FMC as a 12 year old. That was different and helped shape who she was from the beginning. You understood her so much better by the time the main storyline starts. The politics, the generational oppression, the mystery, and corruption were so relatable yet different. I saw the ending coming and just held on. I love the dual POV chapters and the different narratives. I am dying for book 2.
